Remembering Casey Schaeffer, Ms. Wheelchair Kentucky 2015

Casey takes Alette on a tour of Kentucky.

It is with a heavy heart that we learn of the passing of Casey Schaeffer, Ms. Wheelchair Kentucky 2015. Casey fought a long, hard battle with an infection related to her disability for several years and on September 18, 2019 Casey could no longer fight and was laid to rest with her Lord. Casey was not only an advocate for the disability community, she was also a wife, dog-mom, and a friend to all.

While Casey’s time on Earth may have been short, it was filled with love, compassion, grace, and kindness. She had a laugh that could make anyone happy, was eager to help anyone and everyone, and loved people. Her radiant smile and personality could light up the darkest of rooms. Casey exemplified Southern hospitality in every sense of the word; if you were stranded at an airport in the middle of the night with lost luggage, Casey and Shawn would drive hours with food, toiletries, and clothes and then ask what else they could do for you!

Casey would stop at nothing to show people that her disability did not define her and spent her time as Ms. Wheelchair Kentucky 2015 educating the masses and being a “roll” model to young girls with disabilities. Casey taught us all what it meant to be a caring person, to live life to the fullest, and to never give up. While we mourn the loss of a beautiful woman (inside and out), we must remember to live like Casey.
