Wow, what an incredible cabaret fundraiser we just had. What’s that you say? Oh, it’s beginning of July and the performance was back in May and we were never debriefed on how excellently the event went?
Quarantine time must work differently because that still feels like yesterday! I could not have asked for a better group of incredible and diverse talent. With the help of my amazing team and the generosity of so many friends and family, we were able to raise $300. We can’t wait to start planning our next event.
The last few weeks have been spent attending some powerful panels highlighting black disabled artists, providing accessible platforms for them to be able to share their stories. These panels included: “Uplift”, produced by members of the inter-abled dance company, InfiniteFlow.
RespectAbility, and a conversation lead by “Cur8able” accessible fashion founder, Stephanie Thomas. I also attended conversations with filmmaker Ashley Eakin and spent two invigorating days attending the “No Barriers Virtual Summit.”
Here I was able to connect with prominent voices such as Sam Morris, founder of Zen Warrior Training, disabled comedian Josh Blue, and for the biggest fangirl moment of all, I even got to pose a question to the one and only Marlee Matlin!
Can't wait to see what the summer brings!
June 17th was one of the highlights of the month, providing a great prelude to July and the ADA 30 anniversary month, when I got to hear our very own, Judith Heumann, share her insights, at the “Being Heumann” book club webinar event. Stay tuned on my social media pages for daily celebrations, highlights and fun facts surrounding the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
